Everything with this site was working against us; over 6’ of elevation change, cross slope across the yard, back patio looking directly towards busy roadway, not a tree in site to provide any shape and a pie shaped backyard that didn’t allow traditional design forms. The client also wanted to incorporate straight lines and curves into the design and do everything possible to get as much shade and privacy built into the project.
With an irregular shaped backyard along with over 5′ total elevation change, a unique design was necessary to make this a usable and family friendly backyard. The client wanted to incorporate a large tanning ledge, grotto, slide, water features, perimeter overflow spa, fire pit, cabana and outdoor kitchen to entertain their large (and growing) family. To best work with the shape of the yard, a unique pool shape was created that mainly featured straight, contemporary lines but also had some large, soft curves to work off the pie-shaped yard. We then created multiple levels across the back of the project to work with the cross slope that was present on the property. By the end of the project the backyard was transformed with all
the elements the client desired and leaving plenty of space for all their entertainment needs.
