Pool Care Tips

Tips For Keeping Your Pool Running All Year-Round

  • Maintain proper water level in the pool at all times. More water loss will occur with waterfalls and fountains.
  • Pool equipment should run 5 to 6 hours per day between November and March, and 10 to 12 hours a day between April and October.
  • The skimmer baskets and pump strainer baskets need to be emptied weekly. If trees are present more cleaning may be required.
  • When adding chemicals to your pool always follows the manfacturer's recommendations. Granular shock should be diluted in water and added around the perimeter of the pool, not directly into the skimmer.
  • Any fertilizer will stain plaster.
  • Maintain proper water chemistry.

Winterizing Tips

  • Make sure that the freeze protection is set on 38 degrees for the pump to circulate cold water. Note: The pump will remain on until the temperature rises above 38 degrees.
  • To ensure proper circulation, all pipes must have water moving through them. Fountains and water features may be turned down to prevent ice forming on the walls of the pool.
  • During the winter, shocking can be done in place of chlorine tablets. Tablets have stabilizers in them that can raise the cyaniric acid level above the recommended range (30 - 60 ppm). Note: It is good to open the chlorinator dial to 5 to prevent it from freezing.
  • Pool will lose a dramatic amount of water when it is cold and the freeze protect is being used.
